Sister Mary Pauline, a Felician Sister for 68 years, died Saturday in Erie County Medical Center. She was 84.
The former Sophie Pasierb was born in Tarnopol, Poland. As a refugee, she spent time in Pakistan, Iran and Mexico.
She eventually came to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children, Cheektowaga, then entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters in 1948,
She became an American citizen in 1953 and professed perpetual vows in 1955.
After graduating from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy in Buffalo, she earned an associate's in arts degree at Villa Maria College and a bachelor of science degree in education from the University at Buffalo. Sister Pauline began her ministry assisting at St. Rita’s Home for Children, Getzville.
She also served at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children.
In 1959, she began teaching at St. Hyacinth School, Dunkirk, and taught students at the primary level in the Buffalo Catholic Schools for 16 years.
In 1982, Sister Pauline began working in the laundry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Provincial House in Buffalo for five years. She then assisted in other internal services for a short time before returning to the laundry as supervisor for 14 years, until 1996.
She also served as an aide, sacristan and in other capacities at St. Francis Residence, the Provincial House and the Felician Sisters Health and Wellness Center, now known as the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center.
From 1999 to 2001, she was involved in parish ministry at St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Akron.
Because of declining health, she became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in August, 2012.
Survivors include a sister, Józefa Daugielewicz.
An evening prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel at Villa Maria Convent, 600 Doat St. , Cheektowaga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in the Convent chapel, 600 Doat St..
