We know there's no homeroom today. But we're up and ready to go from the final weekend of the Section VI football regular season.
Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.
What to watch for Saturday
1. Matinee football
Rivalry week continues on Saturday with the biggest of them all: Canisius at St. Joe's. The 1 p.m. contest seemed in doubt at one point after sources told The Buffalo News that St. Joe's players turned in their game jerseys Thursday and wouldn't play unless the school appealed the suspension of a teammate. But St. Joe’s confirmed Friday through a spokesman that the game will go on and that the suspended player will be allowed to play.
Additional matchups to watch for Saturday:
- Cleveland Hill at JFK, 1:30 p.m.
- Kenmore West at Kenmore East, 2 p.m. at Tonawanda
- Orchard Park at Niagara Falls, 2:30 p.m.
- Cathedral Prep (Pa.) at St. Francis, 7 p.m.
2. Girls soccer - Clarence at Williamsville South, 1 p.m.
No. 1 large school Clarence (14-1) heads to No. 9 Williamsville South (9-5) to squeak in one more game on the last day of the regular season. The Red Devils, who are led by Anna Davies' 30 goals, Emma Faso's 14 and Riley Bowers' 12, haven't lost to a WNY school this year. The Billies, led by Kaitlin Gruber's 12 goals and Nicole Gruber's 11, are looking to build momentum heading into the playoffs having lost three of their last four games.
3. Volleyball tournaments
The last girls tournaments of the season will be hosted by West Seneca West at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center in West Seneca and by North Tonawanda on its own premises. The Orchard Park Tournament is the lone boys event on Saturday's schedule.
4. Seedings meetings
Playoff time is right around the corner when seedings meetings start popping up on the schedule. Official boys and girls soccer playoff seedings will be released today, while football and girls tennis will be released on Sunday. Soccer prequarterfinals start on Monday, football quarterfinals are on Friday and Saturday and sectionals for girls tennis will be played Friday and Saturday.
