LOCKPORT - Several motorcycles and a large amount of tools were lost in a fire which heavily damaged an unattached garage at 32 Corinthia St.on Thursday afternoon.
The Lockport Fire Department was dispatched just after 2:30 p.m. and arrived to find the oversized garage located behind the house fully engulfed by flames. A second alarm was issued due to the size of the garage and the fire. The fire was brought under control by 4:18 p.m.
Once firefighters were able to get inside, they were able to bring the fire under control, according to the fire department's report. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however fire investigators from the Lockport police and fire departments found that one of the occupants in the residence had been doing some welding in the garage in the hours before the fire was discovered, which may have contributed to the fire.
Flames and heat caused $17,6000 in damage to the garage and damage to the rear wall and main floor of the garage was reported as "extensive." The fire also caused $50,000 in property damage.
