Virginia L. “Ginny” Gentile, a cosmetologist and beauty salon owner, died Tuesday in her Amherst home. She was 99.

Born in Sykesville, Pa., the former Virginia Saviola was a graduate of the Roberts School of Beauty Culture and took courses at Roberts Advanced Hairstyling Techniques, the Robert Fiance Hair Design Institute in New York City and the Virginia Farrell Academy in Detroit.

Mrs. Gentile was the owner and operator of Ginny’s Kurl and Kut and LaJolie Femme Salon on Buffalo’s East Side. She retired in 1997. She was a member of the National Cosmetology Association.

A member of the Congrega Society of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, she also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Perseverance Society.

An avid bowler, she participated in several leagues. She took frequent vacations in Florida and was a summer resident of Thunder Bay, Ont.

Her husband of 58 years, Adolf J., a jeweler, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, Paul P., and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Church, 1520 E. Delavan Ave.
