Report: Bills' Watkins won't need surgery, could return late in season

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins won't need additional surgery on the foot he had repaired in April after suffering a stress fracture, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Bills placed Watkins on their injured-reserve list on Sept. 30, making him eligible to return to the team for the Nov. 27 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to Rapoport, Watkins visited Dr. Robert Anderson, a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon in Charlotte, N.C., and his recommendation for the receiver was rest and rehabilitation.

Watkins hasn't played since the Bills' Sept. 15 loss against the New York Jets.

UPDATE: Bills coach Rex Ryan told reporters Wednesday he was unaware of the report on Watkins.
