Lawmakers and members of the public can now attend Erie County Legislature meetings without stepping into an online black hole.
The Legislature has finally installed Wi-Fi, making it possible for people to download Legislature and committee meeting agendas from the fourth floor of Old County Hall where the Legislature meets. Information regarding the Legislature's new Wi-Fi name and public password is posted by meeting areas for anyone who wishes to use the wireless network to stay connected.
The Legislature has spent about $900 so far to install the wireless network, said Legislature staffers, though the final bill is expected to be higher. Plans are in the works to transition all 11 legislators to tablets by sometime next year so that they can review meeting materials electronically, instead of having thick stacks of documents printed out, which is the current practice.
