Amherst Alumni Foundation to honor 4

Four Amherst High School alumni will be honored during an awards reception sponsored by the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Fairdale Banquet Center, 672 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.

The year's honoree are Dr. John Schriver,  a professor of emergency medicine at George Washington University Hospital in D.C.; Gary Ginsberg, executive vice president of corporate marketing and communications at Time Warner; Anne Harding Joyce, a past president of the alumni foundation who was instrumental in building the new athletic track at Amherst High School; and Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Tom Hambridge.

Four former Amherst School District staff members will each receive the foundation's Distinguished Educator Emeritus Awards. They are Nancy Riccio, former director of health, physcial education and athletics; Kenneth Butka, a former chairman of the high school math department; Fred Machemer, a retired chemistry teacher and coach for the boys junior varsity and varsity high school basketball teams; and Cleta Schermerhorn, a former music teacher at the middle school.
