NIAGARA FALLS - A rally against 'locker room talk' and to promote respect for all people is planned at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Niagara Falls.
Organizer Brook D'Angelo said the event at the corner of Main Street and Division Avenue is an opportunity to stand in solidarity and #RALLY4RESPECT — respect for all gender identities, all races, for every human body.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been widely criticized since Friday, when an 11-year-old video surfaced in which he boasted to television personality Billy Bush of “Access Hollywood” in vulgar terms about being able to get away with groping women because he's a celebrity. Trump has apologized, calling his comments "locker room talk."
"There is no need to tolerate abusive language that is condoned as 'locker room talk' or 'for men only conversation.' We are gathering to show that it is not acceptable coming from anyone and we will not accept the sexist mentality of 'words are just words,'" D'Angelo said in an announcement of the event.
She said participants are encouraged to wear purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Participants are asked to observe Niagara Falls' "Ground Rules for Protesting" issued by the Niagara Falls Police Department.
