University at Buffalo women’s basketball player Cassie Oursler has received another year of eligibility from the NCAA in recognition for an injury she suffered in the 2014-15 campaign.
Oursler, a 6-foot-3 center, will be a junior for UB in terms of eligibility this year and a senior in 2017-18. She started 20 games for UB last season and led the team in rebounding, averaging 6.3 a game. She scored 8.0 ppg.
The decision is a big plus for UB but it’s also justice for Oursler. She started her career at Robert Morris and played a full freshman season in 2013-14. The next season she was suffering from a foot injury that she knew was significant, but she agreed to try to play on it. She appeared in two early season games, seeing a total of just 15 minutes. After the first semester that season, she decided to transfer to UB. She appealed to the NCAA to give her that season of eligibility back, and the collegiate governing body agreed.
Oursler was the Western New York player of the year for Grand Island High School in 2013.
