The Buffalo Beauts rallied from a 4-2 deficit after two periods to take a 5-4 decision from the Connecticut Whale on Sunday night. The win, which took place at HarborCenter, leveled the Beauts’ record at 1-1 in the young season.
Kelley Steadman had two of the third-period goals for Buffalo. She struck only 34 seconds into the third period to get the Beauts within a goal. Kourtney Kunichika struck on the power play only 48 seconds later to tie the game. Steadman got the game-winner with an even-strength goal at 11:07 of the third period.
Megan Bozek and Emily Janiga had the other Buffalo goals. Haley Skarupa had three goals and an assist for the Whale while Kelly Babstock had one goal.
Connecticut finished with a 33-25 edge in shots, but the Beauts had a 9-6 edge in the third period. Brianne McLaughlin played the third period in goal for Buffalo and was perfect.
The Beauts play in Boston on Saturday night.
