Dogs and cats are featured in a unique 2017 calendar that includes popular Niagara County locations as the backdrop and raises funds for the Niagara County SPCA.
The rescue animals are shown in what amounts to a photo tour of Niagara County: playing blackjack at the Seneca Niagara Casino, sitting in a car at the Sunset drive-in in Middleport, “auditioning” at the Riviera Theatre. There’s even a ferret in a tutu and tiara in a scene from “The Nutcracker” with the Greater Niagara Ballet.
Other scenes include Bond Lake, Niagara Falls, Marjim Manor Winery in Barker, Goodman’s Farm Market in Wheatfield, Old Fort Niagara, Artpark, Olcott Beach, the Herschell Carousel Museum, and Lockport locations such as the Kenan Mansion and Flight of Five.
“I wanted every corner of Niagara County covered,” said Polla Milligan, who coordinated the calendar fundraiser for the SPCA.
She said all funds raised through calendar sales will go to the organization.
Milligan said the cats weren’t too cooperative, so most pages are dog-centered, but the back of the calendar includes a grouping of rescue cats.
The calendars cost $10 and went on sale Oct. 1. They are available at participating locations throughout Niagara County, as well as at the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport St.
Photography work was donated by Kristen Musick-Cake; Elizabeth Millen; Bridget Shaw, K&D Photography, James Neiss, Photography by Raquel, Brook D’Angelo and Jaz Jablonski Studio One Portrait Design.
“I’m extremely proud that all the money comes to (the SPCA),” said Milligan.
She said the organization produced a calendar last year and raised $16,000, but she said that one was done in-house with one photographer.
“Nothing against the first photographer, but this calendar blows that one away,” she said.”They are just awesome pictures.”
