Lockport woman, 29, killed in three-car Town of Niagara crash

TOWN OF NIAGARA – A Lockport woman died Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Lockport Road near Tuscarora Road, Town of Niagara police said.

Rodella Watterson, 29, was killed and another driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened shorlty before 7 a.m., according to police.

Watterson was driving west on Lockport Road when she passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone, witnesses and other drivers told police.

Watterson made contact with the front of the vehicle she was passing when she tried getting back into the right lane, and her vehicle then slid sideways into an oncoming vehicle in the eastbound lane, police said.

Watterson’s speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, and police are looking into whether there were “any other distractive contributing factors.”

The driver of the vehicle being passed, David J. Nowak, 23, of Niagara Falls, was uninjured.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, Christopher M. Clark, 39, of Niagara Falls, was taken to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Watterson was taken to Mount St. Mary’s, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
