City Hallways (Oct.7) Wyatt adds to conversation Wingo started

Wyatt comments on conversation Wingo began

"I applaud him for what he is doing," University Councilman Rasheed Wyatt said of  his colleague, Masten Councilman Ulysees Wingo, who held up his fist, refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance as a way of protesting police killings of African-Americans across the country.

But Wyatt then went in a different direction, saying the black community also needs to address violence from within.

"I can't sit talking about this one issue, when we have this other issue right in front of us," he said. "We gotta stop killing each other."

Wyatt then spoke about a 19-year-old who was killed over a pair of sneakers. "We hear these types of things all the time," Wyatt said.

"We all  have to get together, and realize there are issues we have to own up to," Wyatt continued. "We have to lead our young people.  If our young people don't see, how will they find their way?

"It's not just a police issue; it's a community issue," he said.

The same audience that came to support Wingo,  applauded Wyatt's words.

Taco Update

I got an email from Deep South Taco Thursday. Still no opening date for the Hertel location, but "opening soon" now means the restaurant operators are ready to start hiring staff.

Interviews for all positions will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 to 13th at 1707 Hertel Ave., corner of Starin Avenue.

Food Truck Trivia - 2015 vs. 2016

There were 18 food trucks participating in Food Truck Thursday in Niagara Square this year. Ten more than last year.

Last year the lunch event ran for three months. This year, it ran for five.

The final Food Truck Thursday of the season was held this week.
