LOCKPORT – The Lockport Town Board wants to hear the public’s views on allowing taller commercial buildings in town.
The board voted Wednesday night to hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 in Town Hall, 6560 Dysinger Road, on a package of zoning changes that includes lifting the height restriction on buildings in business zones.
The limit is currently 35 feet in some business areas, 40 feet in others. But the new rules would allow special use permits for buildings of up to 60 feet in areas zoned for large business.
Town officials said last month that construction of a four-story Hampton Inn on the Pendleton side of South Transit Road, a building which would have been illegal on the Lockport side of the road, triggered the proposed zoning change.
