Frederick J. Bough, of Williamsville, a retired district sales manager for Ashland Oil Co., died Sunday in Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clarence. He was 86.
Born in Oswego, he moved to Buffalo with his family in 1942. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1953 from Canisius College. He then served in the Army, stationed in Alaska, and in the Army Reserve.
Mr. Bough joined Ashland Oil Co. in sales in 1961 and moved to Detroit after he was appointed district sales manager in 1976. He returned to Buffalo as district sales manger in 1985 and retired in 1993.
He was a member of the First Friday Club, the Buffalo Club, the Di Gamma Society at Canisius College and the Buffalo Council 184, Knights of Columbus, where he won many handball tournaments.
He also enjoyed swimming and golf. He and his wife of 31 years, the former Janice M. Leuze, traveled frequently to Europe and visited Australia and New Zealand.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Maryfrances Offermann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 651 Washington St.
