Charity run benefits Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund

NIAGARA FALLS – The Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund is approaching its 88th season of fundraising and bringing joy and toys to impoverished children, seniors in nursing homes and families in the Niagara Falls community.

Fundraising efforts will kick off this year at the third annual Niagara Falls Firefighters Charity Run, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday in LaSalle Waterfront Park, 6611 Buffalo Ave.

Racers may choose 5K or 10K runs that start and end at the park and follow the scenic bike/hiking path along the Upper Niagara River.

Online registration will be held up until the start of the race at Race day registration and packet pickup will take place inside the lobby of the Four Points Sheridan, 7001 Buffalo Ave., from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Pre-race hot and cold drinks will be provided, as well as a commemorative T-shirt, water and snack. A post race hot dog will be provided for registrants.

Through the efforts of volunteers, 95 percent or more of the donations are used to hold a festive holiday-themed party for area nursing homes and to provide new Christmas toys and cold-weather clothing to children in need, according to the firefighters toy fund.

More fundraisers will be held as Christmas approaches, including a boot brigade on Black Friday at Niagara Falls Boulevard and Military Road. The annual telethon and basket auction will be on Dec. 3 at Niagara Falls High School. Donations are tax deductible.
