The last lick of summer: Fall ice cream treats

Green Acres' fall menu. Click for a full-sized image.

Just because fall is here doesn’t mean our ice cream trips have to come to an end. We found some places that marry one of summer’s best foods with the delicious flavors of the season:

Get to Green Acres Ice Cream in Depew (4357 Broadway) before it closes on Oct. 10. Fall hours are noon to 9 p.m. daily. There are loads of great fall ice cream combinations.

Apple cider slushies, shakes and smoothies, pumpkin pie parfaits, pumpkin pie ice cream, warm apple cinnamon sundae… the list goes on and on.

Here are two examples:

*The warm apple cinnamon sundae tops soft vanilla custard with warm apple cinnamon topping, pecans, Cool Whip (yes, you read that right) and harvest sprinkles.

*The caramel apple pie sundae tops Perry's Southern Apple Pie ice cream with warm caramel, graham cracker crumbs, Cool Whip and harvest sprinkles.

Lake Effect Ice Cream (79 Canal St., Lockport) calls its pumpkin ginger snap “the king of our fall flavors.”

Also on the menu are Trick-or-Treat ice cream — vanilla ice cream filled with all the candy bars you’d get in a trick-or-treat bag and a delightful Concord grape ice cream. All will be available throughout fall.

Lake Effect will be open year-round for the first time. Plans are in the works for Thanksgiving ice cream pies.

Visit Anderson’s online and click on the “Custard Calendar” for the custard of the day at the various locations.

Find flavors like cinnamon and pumpkin at the Main Street location or pumpkin at the Transit location.

While apple caramel tart sundae or shake ended for September, October brings the sweet potato pumpkin caramel tart sundae or shake at all locations.

Also available are packed to go custards: pumpkin, caramel apple crisp and Pumpkin Cheesecake Dream.

Also being served is this luscious Pumpkin Java Cow — a “hot coffee float with pumpkin ice cream, whipped cream and cinnamon.”

And finally, Sweet Jenny’s Ice Cream in Williamsville (5732 Main St.) is serving up an apple cider shake.

Also available are salted caramel apple pie, maple walnut, pumpkin, pumpkin gingersnap and classic cinnamon nutmeg ice creams.
