Bellini’s Bistro has opened in a longtime restaurant space a few steps away from Kleinhans Music Hall.
The building at 350 Pennsylvania St., across the street from the hall’s backside, was formerly Prospero and Coda. Owners Susan and Mike Navarro opened not quite two weeks ago, offering a compact, Italian-centered menu, and a selection of wine and beer.
Appetizers include spinach and herb-crusted scallops Rockefeller, with a gruyere potato cake ($13), and meatballs in spicy arrabiata sauce with banana pepper cheese crostini ($12). Entrees include chicken saltimbocca with asiago cheese, prosciutto and beurre blanc ($18) and duck breast au poivre, with saffron risotto ($24).
The Navarros are not newcomers to the restaurant game, having operated an earlier version of Bellini’s on Delaware Avenue, in the building that’s now Snooty Fox. The Navarros sold that building in 2006, Susan Navarro said.
Mike Navarro did catering for years, but “he’s always wanted his own place,” Navarro said. “We’ve driven by that place over and over, and I think it’s the cutest darn neighborhood, and small, manageable.”
At present, the 35-seat restaurant is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Phone: 342-2388.
