GREENE, Edith (Albertson)

GREENE - Edith (nee Albertson) September 25, 2016. Born in Burlington, NJ in 1917, she grew up there on Green Hill Farm, which grew apples, peaches, and other produce for shipment to Philadelphia and beyond. She was a graduate of Westtown School and Mount Holyoke College (class of 1938). She shared her love of literature with her students in English classes she taught at Brimmer and May School in Boston, MA, the Harley School in Rochester, NY, Rosary Hill (now Daemen) College, and Buffalo State College. In 1946 she married David G. Greene, MD, at the Quaker Meetinghouse in Burlington. They moved to Buffalo in 1948 after he finished his medical residency in New York City. Dr. Greene, a cardiologist at the Buffalo General Hospital and professor at the University of Buffalo Medical School, died in 1991. A longtime member of the Garret Club, she cultivated a circle of friends of many ages and walks of life. She loved art, music, and theater, and was a loyal supporter of many cultural and educational institutions. She moved to East Aurora in 2003. Survivors include her sister, Mary Thorn of State College, PA; daughters Amy Greene of College Park, MD, Eleanor Greene of East Aurora, Constance Klocke of East Aurora, and son Stephen Greene of Boston, MA; four grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
