LOCKPORT – Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey directed Wednesday that four or five guitar cases, purchased by former Mayor Michael W. Tucker, are to be auctioned off.
Corporation Counsel John J. Ottaviano said Tucker bought the cases to hold souvenir guitars he received as personal gifts from some of the star musicians who performed at Lockport’s now-defunct summer concert series.
Ottaviano said Tucker was reimbursed by placing the cost of the cases on his city expense account. No information was available Wednesday on how much the cases cost.
When Tucker resigned in 2014, he took the guitars and left the cases behind.
McCaffrey said at Wednesday’s Common Council work session that the cases will be up for bids during the Police Department’s annual bicycle auction, set for 9 a.m. Oct. 8 in the police garage in the basement of City Hall.
Ottaviano said a public official who receives a gift worth more than $75 commits an ethical violation if he keeps it, but it’s up to the public official to place a value on the gift.
