City Hallways (Sept. 27) The morning after - you pick the debate winner

Clinton v. Trump - who won the debate?

Interesting debate.  Who won?

Vote in The Buffalo News straw poll:

Poll: Who won the first of the 2016 presidential debates?

(By the way, Mayor Brown, who is chairman of the state Democratic Party, was at Hofstra University Monday night for the debate.)

Policeman's best friend

James Howe worked as a Buffalo Police officer  for 31 years, the last seven with Stark as his partner.

Now Howe is retiring. So is Stark, an 8-1/2 year-old German Shepherd who served in the police department's K-9 unit with Howe as his handler.

"Due to the K-9's age (8+ years old) and health, and the fact that Officer Howe is retiring from the Buffalo Police Department, it has been determined that the dog is no longer able to fulfill the requirements of a Buffalo Police K-9 Corp dog," Police Commissioner Dan Derenda wrote in a memo to the Council.

But that's not the end of this partnership.

Stark will likely be spending  his retirement with Howe, at his  new owner's Derby  home.

All that's still needed is  an expected Common Council approval allowing Howe to accept full ownership - including full liability -- for  the dog.

Today's calendar items
Common Council committee meetings, starting with Civil Service and Finance in the morning followed by Community Development and Legislation in the afternoon.
