BATAVIA – About a dozen overnight thefts of batteries from commercial vehicles have been reported across Genesee County over the last six weeks, prompting an investigation into whether the incidents are related, the sheriff’s office reported Monday.
The batteries are a variety commonly found in large trucks, buses and heavy equipment and retail for as much as $300. They have vale as used batteries or even can be sold a scrap, officials said.
Thefts have been reported in the towns of Elba, Oakfield, Batavia, Byron, Alabama and Alexander.
