Lynn Williams took the goals lead in the National Women’s Soccer League and the Western New York Flash clinched a playoff berth by winning their final regular season game over the Boston Breakers, 4-0, at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. Saturday night.
The Flash took the lead for good in the second minute when Jessica McDonald scored with an assist by Makenzy Doniak.
Williams scored her 11th of the season in the 25th minute. She was tied for the league lead with Kealia Ohai of the Houston Dash. Ohai will play her final regular season game on Sunday.
Samantha Mewis, from nearby Hanson, Mass., made it 3-0 in the 45th minute. Abby Dahlkemper of the Flash scored the only goal of the second half on a penalty kick.
The fourth-place Flash (9-6-5) will play at the first-place Washington Spirit (12-4-3) at 8 p.m. on Friday in one semifinal. The third place Chicago Red Stars (9-5-6) will play at Portland Thorns FC on Oct. 2. The NWSL championship game will be Sunday Oct. 9 at a site to be determined.
