Playing on his home course, Jim Scorse of the Stafford Country Club shot the day’s best round Sunday, a 69, and it was good enough to win the 33rd New York State Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.
Scorse wasn’t able to coast to the championship despite his familiarity with the course. He needed to match a birdie by Adam Condello of Locust Hill CC on the final hole to go 6-under for the tournament with 210. Condello shot a 70 on Sunday and finished at 211. Scorse and Condello were tied for the lead after two rounds at 141.
The best finish by a Western New York golfer was a tie for seventh by Derek Roller (Lancaster CC) who had a 74 Sunday and 219 total. Michael Carrig (Springville) and Kristopher Boyes (Sheridan Park) tied for ninth. They each had a 73 Sunday for a 54-hole total of 219.
