Jake Katz of the Brookfield Country Club, who was tied for the first-day lead, shot a 76 on Saturday and is tied for sixth place at 1-over 145 going into the final round of the 33rd New York State Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at the Stafford CC.
Jim Scorse of the host club and Adam Condello of Bloomfield share the 36-hole lead at 141. Condello shot Saturday’s best round a 67, while Scorse had a 69.
Derek Roller (72-73) of Alden is among the three golfers tied with Katz at 145. Katz, who played collegiately at Binghamton, shot 4-under 68 in Friday’s opening round.
Katz had six bogeys and one double-bogey on Saturday. He had most of his difficulty on Stafford’s four par-3 holes. He was 4 over playing those holes, including a double-bogey on No. 4. Two of his three birdies came on the four par-5 holes.
