Room for improvement on Buffalo’s bike paths
While I’m happy that Buffalo was recently awarded a bronze rating for bicycling, I have some major concerns. On a recent outing, I started out on the LaSalle Park path and couldn’t go much farther due to a gate and a closed sign on the bike path.
Since no detour signs were posted, I was forced to ask a fellow rider where to go. He guided me to Niagara Street, where I had to drive a couple of miles in traffic before accessing the path again, which also lacked proper signage. Once I got back on the path I enjoyed a beautiful, scenic ride to Tonawanda.
I can understand a bike path being closed after dark for safety concerns, but there is no excuse for this on a summer weekend during the day. I also understand local bicycling groups are working hard and it’s still a work in progress, but we can do better, Buffalo!
