New app to inform Erie County residents during emergencies

If you are unsure what to do in a local emergency, you now can look to your smart phone for help.

Erie County officials are unveiling Thursday a new mobile app designed to inform county residents during emergencies.

The free “Ready Erie” app will send push notifications, allow users to locate emergency shelters, view up-to-date evacuation maps and create a personalized emergency preparedness plan, according to County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s office.

Poloncarz and other county officials have scheduled a news conference at 10 a.m. at the Central Police Services building on Elm Street in downtown Buffalo.
