It’s not Craig and Charlie Reid’s fault you only know one of their songs.
The Scottish brothers have put out 10 studio albums since 1987; have had their music featured in cult classic films like “The Commitments” and “Bottle Rocket”; and supplied the inspiration for the award-winning UK musical (and film), “Sunshine on Leith.” But since the Reid siblings front The Proclaimers — who will play the Waiting Room (334 Delaware Ave.) on Sept. 23 — you likely know them for their sing-along single, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).”
Featured in the 1993 film Johnny Depp film “Benny and Joon,” the then five-year-old tune became a radio and MTV staple, and brought the relatively obscure duo massive international success. But it wasn’t the end of their story, nor was it the whole of it.
After a quiet rest of the '90s, the Reids have spent the last 15 years dealing jangling songs evocative of people and pulse of their Edinburgh home turf. Last year, they followed a two-year-long world tour with “Let’s Hear It For the Dogs,” complete with the same rollicking pace and Scottish syllabic snarl that’s come to identify brothers’ vocals — amplified aside Johnny Depp-steered romance or otherwise.
