Man charged with stealing from cars claims ‘10-bag-a-day’ heroin habit

A man who told police he has a “10-bag-a-day heroin addiction” was arrested early Wednesday morning after officers found him rummaging through unlocked vehicles in the City of Tonawanda.

Police said Joseph M. Schneider, 23, of Delaware Street, was going through cars in the area of Minerva Street, Elmwood Park and Fletcher Street.

He was arrested at about 12:30 a.m., City of Tonawanda police said.

Schneider, who was charged with larceny, was in possession of loose change, keys and gift cards, according to police.

Schneider told officers he was mainly looking for money for his drug habit, police said. He was held pending a court appearance.
