The albino stout is lightly hopped, includes oats, and was finished with chocolate nibs. It will launch at a release party from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 29 at Rusty Nickel Brewing Co. (4350 Seneca St., West Seneca) and only be available in the taproom.
Twenty percent of proceeds will go to Roswell Park Cancer Institute to support breast cancer research.
Brewers from across the region gathered at Big Ditch Brewing Co. earlier this month to remember Kevin Wise, the Buffalo Beer Biochemist blogger and author of Gusto’s Beer Matters column, who died in July at age 43. It features local Cascade hops, as well as Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin hops.
The ingredients were donated by breweries involved in the collaboration: 12 Gates and 42 North brewing companies, Community Beer Works, Four Mile Brewing, Flying Bison and Hamburg brewing companies, New York Beer Project, Gene McCarthy’s/Old First Ward Brewing Co., Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, Resurgence and Rusty Nickel brewing companies, Thin Man and Woodcock Brothers Brewery, as well as the Brewers Association and the Buffalo Beer League. Participating breweries will all sell the beer; proceeds will go to the Wise family.
Third Anniversary Party
Hamburg Brewing Co. (6553 Boston State Road), has offered 750ml bottles of surprise specialty brews at its first two anniversary parties. This year will be no different.
“Business is dictated by what kind of beer you can surprise people with,” General Manager Matt Piazza said. Last year’s rendition was a Grand Cru American strong ale. The surprise this year will be revealed at the Oct. 1 party, which starts at noon.
Imperial Pumpkin Ale
New York Beer Project (6933 S. Transit Road) will unveil this high-octane ale at 5 p.m. Oct. 1 in its two-story Lockport brewery. This ale has been fermented using oak soaked in Buffalo Trace Bourbon.
Ales for ALS XXIPA
This 12 Gates Double IPA features Cascade, Centennial and Columbus hops with a second Cascade batch thrown in during the brewing process. It has tastes of light fruit, resin and pine, with a wisp of spice. It carries an alcohol content of 9.6 percent and a very high International Bitterness Units (IBU) score of 90.
It’s available starting Sept. 23 in the taproom at 80 Earhart Drive, the VIP room at the Sept. 24 Ballpark Brew Bash and the brewery’s top 12 tavern accounts. Proceeds will benefit ALS education and research.
