Erie County will hold its tax foreclosure auction at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Downtown Central Library.

The City of Buffalo is urging those in danger of losing their homes to retain an attorney. It is reminding those who can’t afford a private attorney that there is free assistance available from the following agencies:

• Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, 290 Main St. 4th floor ste. 400. Call 853-9555 ext. 453. The property must be owner occupied. Income restrictions apply.

• Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled or Disadvantaged of Western New York, 438 Main St. Call 853-3087 ext. 220. The property must be owner occupied and the owner must be 60 years old or older.

• Volunteer Lawyers Project, 237 Main St. room 1000. Call 847-0662. The owner must meet income guidelines.

• Erie County Emergency Assistance Housing Office, 95 Franklin St. first floor. Call 858-6265. Those under a certain income may qualify for a one-time low interest loan to cover their back taxes.

Those who would like to seek court intervention without an attorney can meet with city attorneys from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11, 12 and 13 at Erie County Courthouse, 25 Delaware Ave., part 27 on the lower level. Photo ID is required.
