A Buffalo man was sentenced last week to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty in Cheektowaga Town Court to driving while intoxicated and weapons possession.
Town Justice Paul Piotrowski sentenced Juan Escobar, 40, of Niagara Street, Thursday in connection with an early-morning fight at the Walden Galleria in August 2015, town police said.
Police were called to the Cheektowaga mall around 3 a.m. on Aug. 14, 2015. A 25-year-old man told police he and Escobar got into a fight. Escobar retrieved a knife and chased the victim, who got into his car and was able to flee after Escobar used the knife to damage his windshield and threatened to kill him, police said.
Police stopped Escobar driving on Walden Avenue near the Thruway Plaza. Escobar was originally charged with DWI, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, menacing and harassment, police said.
