Emergency crews evacuated about 30 homes in the Town of Cuba, in Allegany County, early Sunday because of flash flooding.
Volunteers from the American Red Cross Buffalo Chapter were dispatched to the area at about 3 a.m. to assist evacuated residents in finding safe shelter.
By late Sunday, the residents had returned to their homes or had found other accomodations, so the Red Cross did not set up an emergency shelter, said Red Cross spokesman Jay Bonafede. Volunteers assessed damage to homes and distributed clean-up kits, which include mops, buckets and bleach.
Cuba, in the western part of Allegany County, was deluged with an estimated three to five inches of rain overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
