Stalker of Buffalo schoolgirl subject of police search

Buffalo police are hunting for a man who stalked a young girl on her way to school on the lower West Side Friday morning.

As a result, the Buffalo School District sent telephone warnings out to all district households. Kevin Eberle, the district’s chief operations officer, said the student being followed described the stalker as heavy-set, about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 and “possibly Latino.”

The girl said the man began following her on foot at Niagara and Virginia streets to Maryland Street, before she arrived at school

The girl talked to a school safety resource officer and police were notified.

In reaction, police plan to increase surveillance operations at the beginning and end of the school day, officials said.

Meanwhile, parents were advised to “have a conversation with your children regarding how to avoid strangers and make them aware of the description of (the lower West Side stalker).”

Parents needing details on how to deal with stalkers were urged to contact officials of their children’s schools.
