SOMERSET – A public hearing on a proposed tax break for Mayer Bros. Apple Products’ planned expansion at its Somerset plant has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in Somerset Town Hall, 8700 Haight Road.
The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency will hold the mandatory hearing before voting on the company’s request for a 15-year reduction of property taxes on the $3.15 million expansion. The company also is seeking an exemption from paying sales tax on building materials and equipment used in the 40,000-square-foot addition to the Lake Road plant.
The company plans to add 26 jobs to its current 81-person work force at Somerset, adding two shifts to a new production line that makes fruit juice ingredients for flavored teas and store-brand drinks at several retail chains. The IDA board is expected to vote Oct. 12 on the tax abatement, which would save Mayer Bros. an estimated $307,000.
