The dean of the University at Buffalo’s School of Management will lead the search for a new dean of the university’s law school.
The search is expected to be completed in the spring 2017 semester. James A. Gardner has been serving as interim dean of the law school since late 2014, when former dean Makau W. Mutua stepped down amid criticism of his leadership. Mutua, who is still on the UB faculty, is now a candidate for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kenya, according to Kenyan media outlets. He was scheduled to be interviewed on Wednesday by Kenya’s Judicial Service Commission, the Daily Nation reported.
Paul Tesluk, dean of the School of Management, will serve as chair of the search committee charged with finding Mutua’s successor.
The committee also includes faculty and a student from the law school, as well as other faculty, staff and community members. The university has hired Russell Reynolds Associates to assist in the search.
