Nice to see good news about Buffalo schools
I wanted to commend The News for the great article in the Sept. 3 issue of Refresh about Geoffrey Hurley and the fitness education facility at Riverside High School. I happen to teach Spanish in the Buffalo School District and was there in May for a staff day. I often mill about on our breaks just to see what the different schools have to offer. I stumbled into the new facility and was blown away.
Riverside is a beautiful, old place but that fitness room is new, sparkling clean, state of the art and very impressive. I was thinking, “this is the nicest gym I’ve ever seen in any school.” Of course, the article explained it’s a training and vocational opportunity for high school students who want to go into fitness training/health for a living. It makes such good sense.
I feel like there is a lot of good news about our schools and our efforts to offer all we can to our students. I know there are more stories like this and hope The News will keep sharing them!
