The Western New York Flash couldn’t complete a big second-half comeback in Portland on Sunday night. Therefore, the women’s soccer team will have to wait to clinch a playoff spot.
The Flash dropped a 3-2 decision to the Portland Thorns FC. A win or a tie would have sent them to the postseason in the National Women’s Soccer League.
WNY fell behind, 3-0, in the second half, but scored twice in about four minutes to narrow the margin. Jessica McDonald and Lynn Williams had the goals. But the Flash couldn’t score the equalizer.
The team fell to 8-6-5. The Flash will play in Boston on Sept. 24.
