HarborCenter to host Sabres training camp

The Sabres have used HarborCenter for practices, development camp and prospect challenges. This month, Buffalo will use the building to host training camp.

The Sabres announced the dates and times for their opening week of training camp Friday, and the warmup to the 2016-17 season will begin Sept. 22 with physicals. The on-ice workouts open to the public will begin Sept. 23, and for the first time all the skating will be done in HarborCenter rather than KeyBank Center. The twin-rink complex will allow multiple groups to go on the ice at the same time.

The schedule:

Sept. 23 – Session one: 9 – 9:45 a.m. (New Wave Energy Rink); scrimmage: 9:50 – 10:35 a.m. (First Niagara Rink); session two: 10:40 – 11:25 a.m. (New Wave Energy Rink); session three: 12:50 – 2 p.m. (First Niagara Rink).

Sept. 24 – Session one: 9 – 9:45 a.m. (New Wave Energy Rink); scrimmage: 9:50 – 10:35 a.m. (First Niagara Rink); session two: 10:40 – 11:25 a.m. (New Wave Energy Rink); session three: 12:50 – 2 p.m. (First Niagara Rink).

Buffalo’s first preseason game is Sept. 26 against Minnesota in Pegula Ice Arena on the Penn State campus.

The Sabres are expecting 55 players in camp, with 32 forwards, 18 defensemen and five goaltenders. New defenseman Dmitry Kulikov will wear No. 77, while new backup goalie Anders Nilsson is No. 31. Holdover defenseman Cody Franson is switching from 46 to No. 6.
