Driver, 18, critically injured in North Tonawanda crash

NORTH TONAWANDA - An 18-year-old man was critically injured when the car he was driving crashed into a tree off North Avenue at Ruie Road at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, according to North Tonawanda police.

The unidentified driver was rushed to Erie County Medical Center in what police described as critical condition.

The man was driving on North and stopped at a stop sign at the T-split intersection with Ruie and then accelerated, only to hit a road sign and drive about 400 feet off the road and crash head-on into a tree, according to North Tonawanda police.

The incident remains under investigation.
