YOUNGSTOWN – A variety of activities, food and music will keep people busy at the annual Summerfest planned for 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Porter-on-the-Lake Town Park on Dietz Road.
The event will feature food, vendors, beer and wine, as well as live music by Carl Filbert and Bob Volkman, and the Jimmy Buffett tribute band Pirate Dreams.
Free pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting will be offered to children from 3 to 6 p.m.
The evening will conclude with fireworks from Skylighters of New York over Lake Ontario at dusk.
“We want this to be a family affair and that’s why we cater so much to kids, but we also have some really good bands and people always enjoy them, too,” said co-chair Linda White. “We do our best to keep people entertained. We also have many good vendors.”
Food vendors include Casa Antica, Billy’s Beef, The Great Foodini, JD Enterprises (nuts and snack items) and Melloni’s Catering.
White chairs the event with Gloria Baker, along with their husbands, Larry White and Jeff Baker, both of whom are Porter town councilmen.
White said the four organizers also rely on many local volunteers. All proceeds go toward projects to improve the town park.
This event will be held rain or shine. Admission is $5 per adult, and is free for children 12 and under.
Tickets are available at the event and also on sale at Anchor Spirits, The Dory, Melloni’s Market Place, Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce and First Niagara Bank’s Lewiston branch.
Lake Ontario beach access from Dietz Road will be closed to the public on Monday, due to preparations for the fireworks display.
