Buffalo State will open its football season at home at noon on Saturday against Otterbein at Coyer Field while Erie Community Colleges goes after its second win of the season in Orchard Park.
Buffalo State, in its eighth season of coach Jerry Boyes’ second head coaching stint at the school, finished 7-4 last season after opening with a 29-0 victory over Otterbein in Ohio.
The chief architects of that victory, quarterback Kyle Hoppy (Orchard Park) and running backs Dale Stewart (Niagara Falls) and Tre Jones, are back to lead the Bengals.
Otterbein, located in Westerville, Ohio, in the Columbus area, is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Kevan Green, who passed for 15 TDs for the Cardinals last season, graduated. Logan Stepp, a converted wide receiver, is the new quarterback. Junior wide receiver Julian Lowe, who had 12 TD receptions, is back, however.
ECC will face Monroe College of New Rochelle in Orchard Park at noon. The Kats received a 2-0 forfeit win over Monroe last season but defeated the Mustangs in New Rochelle, 22-19, in 2014. Sam Castronova (Williamsville South) passed for two touchdowns and Jonathan Royster kicked two field goals in ECC’s 20-6 win over Nassau County Community College last week.
