Lafayette High stands proud, just as Bennett and others
I read with interest News reporter Jay Rey’s Aug. 23 article on the passionate interest on the alumni of Bennett High School.
Indeed, Bennett in those years was one of the premier high schools in Buffalo and Western New York. But it is not alone.
As a proud graduate of Lafayette High School, I reflect on my years there and the many lifetime acquaintances I have made, along with many fine contacts.
We had an exceptional faculty, and many of them were at the school for 20 years or more. Again, Bennett High School was not alone.
Many of the Lafayette graduates have had outstanding careers, as have graduates of other city schools, and are loyal after many years to their alma mater.
In the case of Lafayette High School, I remember the words of Principal Robert McGowan and Guidance Counselor Margaret V. Lombardi: Don’t step on the angel, and loyalty, honor and service always.
