Deaf Access Services, a nonprofit organization that provides services for individuals and families in the deaf and hard of hearing communities, announced the appointment of Mark J.F. Schroeder to the DAS Board. He earned an associate degree from Erie Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Empire State College.

The Rotary Club of Buffalo recently awarded $15,513 in grants to nonprofit organizations in the community through its foundation. These grants included $7,080 to WNY Physically Challenged Youth Sports (Buffalo Sabres Sledge Hockey) for adaptive sleds and equipment to outfit nine new players; $4,500 to SABAH towards purchase of 47 pairs of adaptive ice skates for handicapped and disadvantaged children; $4,455 to Salvation Army for a new convection oven, replacing an older model, that will be used in preparation of meals for senior citizens and homeless individuals; $3,600 to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Erie County for the purchase of 10 BAK tablet computers which will be used in its mentoring program; and $2,250 to Peace of the City Ministries, allowing for purchase of 15 Kindles use in its “Literacy for All” program.
