Slow Roll to stop in MLK Park tonight, highlight split caused by expressway

Monday night’s Slow Roll Buffalo community bike ride will begin congregating at 5:30 p.m. at Kerns Avenue Bowling Center, 163 Kerns Ave.

The ride will start at 6:30 p.m. sharp, and go until 8 p.m.

The trip will include the major streets Genesee, Best, East Ferry, East Delavan, Kensington, East Amherst, Eggert and Suffolk. There will be a stop in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, at the Kensington Expressway, where riders will learn more about the community split caused by Route 33 over Humboldt Parkway. The Restore Our Community Coalition will also discuss efforts to restore the parkway.

In standard Slow Roll fashion, the entire ride will run at a leisurely pace of around 10 miles per hour, guided by more than 100 Slow Roll Squad volunteers and a Buffalo Police Department motorcade.

Police say motorists should anticipate interruptions in traffic and possible delays.

Slow Roll Buffalo will continue at a different weekly venue on Monday nights through October 31st.
