Niagara Falls city park to be named after late councilman

NIAGARA FALLS – The late Councilman Robert A. Anderson Jr. took pride in Stephenson Avenue Park, a park which he was “instrumental in developing,” said Council Chairman Andrew Touma.

That pride and love of community will be shared when Stephenson Park is renamed in his honor at a dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the park, located between 73rd and 74th Street.

Anderson purchased a home across from the park in 1986 and was a frequent visitor to the park. He took great effort to keep the park clean, according to the proposition to rename the park that was presented by Councilman Ezra P. Scott Jr.

Anderson was elected a councilman in November 2003 and remained on the council until his death from stomach cancer in November.

“Bob was a friend, a public servant and a veteran. He will remain in our hearts,” wrote Touma.

Councilman Charles Walker agreed, adding “This is a great way to honor him and his family. His dedication and advocacy for this park should forever be remembered.”
