Right-thinking people have to defeat Trump
Over the history of our country, intermittently, an evil spirit called hate has risen to the surface in much the same way that the Japanese movie monster Godzilla rises from the sea. Each era brings forth a new force bent on spreading discord and chaos.
In my lifetime, I have seen the likes of Father Charles Coughlin, Huey Long, Joseph McCarthy, Strom Thurmond and George Wallace. To those for whom these names are meaningless, they bear study. They came into political life and spewed hatred, turmoil and confusion. Those were dark days in our history and we would like to forget them, but we must not. The remarkable thing about it is that they drew millions of people to their sides but, thanks be to God, the fever broke and the union was saved.
And now here we are again. A new phenomenon has arrived on the scene and once more a darkness has descended upon our nation. Donald Trump, the celebrity playboy and sometime real estate tycoon, is playing at the most dangerous game in the world. His potent magic, like the tune of the cobra trainer, has hypnotized millions of people as his predecessors did.
All right-thinking people need to raise their voices in protest. This must not happen. In the words of Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.”
There is so much good in our country. Recently that goodness was exhibited locally when an African-American firefighter, whose house was burned, was showered with dollars and, more importantly, love. We are capable of recognizing hate and we know how to fight it. Trump must not ascend to the halls of power. Vote, vote for light, vote for truth, vote as though your life depended on it. It does!
