MILLER, June Beverly (Nelson)
MILLER - June Beverly (nee Nelson) On the evening of Saturday, August 20, 2016, June passed away peacefully at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY after battling an infection. She was surrounded by her family whom she cherished. June died on her 84th birthday. Her strong will to live, her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends helped June combat many illnesses over the past few years.
June Beverly Nelson was born at home in Tonawanda, NY in the early morning of August 20, 1932. She was the third child and only daughter of Frank Neil and Alvina Sophie (nee Runge) Nelson.
June grew up mostly in the Tonawanda area but moved to Springfield, IL for three years during World War II where her father ran the Sangamon Ordinance plant for Remington Rand. June was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL in 1945. After the war, they moved back to Tonawanda near their family. June graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1950 and enrolled in Bryant & Stratton in Buffalo, NY, graduating in 1951 with an associate degree in secretarial science. June came to Ithaca, NY to work at Cornell University's Department of Electrical Engineering. It was in Ithaca that she met her future husband, Donald Walter Miller of Syracuse, NY. They married on June 30, 1956 in Anabel Taylor Chapel at Cornell.
June's life revolved around her family. She was very involved with her three children's activities, serving as PTA co-president with her husband, perennial homeroom mother and frequent chaperone. June was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church as a Sunday school teacher and leader of MRI. She loved traveling, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. June loved being a grandmother and was blessed to have three grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her parents, and her older brothers Frank N. Nelson, Jr. and Neil J. Nelson. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald W. Miller, her son Scott A. Miller (Kristen Park) of Dryden, NY, her daughter Christine Miller Whaley (Harry E. Whaley) of Chester Springs, PA and her daughter Diane June Miller of Ithaca, NY. June is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Cameron A. Park-Miller, Emma L. Park-Miller, and Harry Nelson Whaley, her sisters-in-law: Geneva Nelson of Tonawanda and Beatrice Nelson formerly of N. Tonawanda, and several nieces and nephews.
