NIAGARA FALLS – A Town of Niagara woman was arrested Wednesday night by Niagara Falls police and charged with being the woman filmed stealing the bicycle of “Baby Shawn” Kennedy, a 6-year-old fighting a rare form of brain cancer.

The bike was stolen off the front porch of Shawn Kennedy’s home on Aug. 9, a moment that was captured on surveillance video set up by his mother.

Conti said the bike was found the next day in a yard near 22nd St. and South Avenue in Niagara Falls, and was returned to the boy while a search went on.

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul A. Dyster gave Baby Shawn a key to the city pin in April, and conveyed to him and his mother, Nicole Vathy, how much the city government and residents hope to keep working to raise public awareness of childhood cancers like the one the little boy, the youngest of his family’s seven children, is battling.
