Ch.4 anchor Weakley exiting, headed to bigger market after three years

WIVB-TV (Channel 4) morning co-anchor and noon anchor Teresa Weakley is leaving the station after three years to take a job at a station in Grand Rapids, Mich. owned by the same company that owns Channel 4.

The move was announced in a memo to the staff from Lisa Polster, the acting news director at the CBS affiliate.

Weakley will be moving to WOOD-TV in a TV market 12 places ahead of Buffalo. The Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek market is No. 41, Buffalo is No. 53.

“We are thrilled for Teresa,” Polster told The News in a text. “She is staying in the Media General Company. She has family there (Grand Rapids). She is a great journalist and will be missed but this is a great opportunity for her.”

Weakley came to Buffalo in 2013 from a Youngstown, Ohio station that had the same owner as Channel 4.

She has teamed with Jordan Williams as the anchor of the morning program “Wake Up!” It remains No. 2 in the market, behind Channel 2’s “Daybreak.”

Her departure comes a few months after Channel 4 commissioned a survey that contained a list of questions about what station in Buffalo the participants watch in the morning and is their favorite.

One survey participant said the questions focused on Williams and Weakley as a pair and whether he liked their style and banter. He added the survey also asked individual questions about their delivery and likeability.

More recently, Channel 4 tried to expand Weakley’s visibility by having her cover one of the political conventions.

Her last day at Channel 4 is Sept. 16.
